Ceramic Coating Maintenance

A ceramic coating is a long-term investment. How you look after it determines how long it performs. This guide covers everything you need to know.

The first 7 days

After application, the coating needs time to fully cure. During the first week:

  • Do not wash the vehicle at all
  • Avoid driving in rain if possible
  • Keep the vehicle out of direct sun where possible
  • Do not apply any other products over the coating

Ongoing washing

The coating is designed to make washing easier — but the method still matters. Incorrect washing is still the #1 cause of swirl marks, even on coated paint.

  • Use pH-neutral shampoo only — no dishwashing liquid
  • Two-bucket method — one for soapy water, one for rinsing your mitt
  • Use a clean microfibre wash mitt — not sponges
  • Rinse the vehicle before washing to remove loose dirt
  • Dry with a clean microfibre drying towel — do not let it air dry
  • Never use automatic car washes with brushes or rollers

Products to use

  • IGL Ecoclean — maintenance spray between washes
  • IGL E-Coat — maintenance topper (annual application)
  • Any pH-neutral automotive shampoo
  • Clean microfibre products only

What to avoid

  • Wax or sealant over the coating — unnecessary and can reduce performance
  • Tar remover or iron fallout remover directly on coating (safe to use, but limit frequency)
  • Abrasive polishes — these will remove the coating
  • Steam cleaning at high heat on the coated surface

Annual maintenance inspection

We recommend bringing the vehicle back annually for a maintenance inspection. We assess the coating condition, apply a maintenance topper if needed, and address any contamination that regular washing hasn't removed. This extends the life of the coating and keeps your warranty valid.
