Longevity depends on the surface and how it's used day to day, but a properly prepped and applied coating is designed to hold up well beyond what a retail spray-on sealant offers.
It significantly reduces staining by stopping spills soaking in, but it's not indestructible — quick clean-up still matters, especially with acidic spills like wine or citrus.
