Tesla Detailing Canberra.

Why Teslas are different

Soft paint, and a lot of it.

Tesla's factory clear coat is widely regarded among detailers as softer than most European finishes, and it shows. Swirl marks from an automatic car wash, the wrong wash mitt, or a rushed pre-delivery buff turn up quickly, and they turn up worst on the solid blacks and deep blues.

The body makes it more obvious. There's no grille breaking up the nose and the roof is a single sheet of glass, so you get large, uninterrupted panels with nowhere for defects to hide. In direct Canberra sun, every mark is on show.

That's why we almost always correct the paint before we protect it. Sealing swirl marks under a coating just locks them in for the life of the coating.

The work

Correct first, then protect.

A typical Tesla through our Fyshwick studio starts with a wash and chemical decontamination, then a paint inspection under proper lighting. From there the work usually falls into three parts.

Paint correction. A cutting stage to remove delivery swirls and wash marring, then a finishing polish for clarity. On soft paint this is done conservatively, because there's less clear coat to work with than people assume.

Protection. Either ceramic coating for gloss and easier washing, or paint protection film across the front end, which is what actually stops stone chips. Plenty of owners do both: PPF on the nose, coating over everything else.

Interior. The white vegan leather in a Model 3 or Model Y picks up blue dye transfer from denim faster than almost any trim we deal with. Our interior detailing covers cleaning and conditioning it, and coating it so the next transfer wipes off instead of setting in.

Local conditions

Highway kilometres and ACT sun.

Canberra Teslas do highway distance. The Federal Highway run to Sydney and the Monaro south are exactly the conditions that chip a front bar, and an EV's instant torque off the line flicks up more loose stone than most owners expect.

Add the UV load on a car that often lives outside on a driveway rather than in a garage, and you have a finish worth protecting properly rather than topping up with a spray sealant every few months.

We work on Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, new deliveries and cars that have been on the road a few years. If you want the full picture on coatings, the ceramic coating page covers tiers and pricing, and indicative pricing is listed across all services.

Common questions

Tesla detailing FAQs.

It is widely regarded among detailers as softer than most European factory finishes, and it marks more easily as a result. Swirl marks from automatic car washes or an incorrect wash technique tend to show up quickly, particularly on the solid black and deep blue colours.

Usually yes, but only after inspection. New deliveries often arrive with light swirl marks or transport marks already in the paint. Coating without correcting first seals those defects in, so we assess the paint and correct where needed before applying any coating.

Yes. The front bar, bonnet and leading edges take the most damage on the highway runs out of Canberra, and PPF absorbs stone chips far better than coating alone. Full front-end coverage is the most common request.

In most cases, yes. Dye transfer from denim onto white vegan leather is one of the most common Tesla interior issues we see. We clean and condition the seats, then can apply a protective coating to make future transfer easier to remove.
